yeah thats pretty good: Little Dark Age

Hello! Today on "yeah thats pretty good", a name which i am blatantly ripping from several people, we are going to talk about MGMT's 2018 Synth-Pop record "Little Dark Age." This is a record that sees the duo return to a more pop-oriented sound of their debut record "Oracual Spectatual" which saw radio hits like "Electric Feel", "Time to Pretend", and "Kids". The duo followed up "Oracual Spectatual" with their 2010 album "Congratulations", an album which isolated their large fan base expecting something more poppy but found the weird alternative songwriting the Duo which attracted them a cult following. After a hiatus due to the mixed reception of their 2013 self-titled album, MGMT returned with 2018's "Little Dark Age"

To call this album a return to form is an understatement. On "Little Dark Age" MGMT blends the experimentalism of their last two albums with the more mainstream sensibilities of their debut. Songs such as the title track and "When You Die" shows this blend beautifully with a mix of dark synths and an eerie feel with a polished edge that gives the songs a refined sound. Other great songs on this album include the opening song, "She Works Out Too Much" an upbeat song about not understanding Instagram (same), "One Thing Left to Try" a song that sounds right out of an 80s movie, and "Hand It Over" a slower song with lyrics alluding to the Trump presidency with a psychedelic vibe.

Overall good album 8.5/10

MGMT doing uh... something.
